T he upper red section represents the proactive cosmic forces of the yang. Conversely, the low er blue section represents the responsive cos mic forces of the yin. About Korea’s flag

Jongmyojerye is the ancestral memorial rite held for the repose of the spirits of the kings and queens of the Joseon period at Jongmyo (the Royal Ancestral Shrine) where their spirit tablets are enshrined. Jo ngmyo-jeryeak was performed during the rites. Ac companied by ritual dancing, Botaepyeong (Maint aining the Great Peace) was a suite of 11 pieces pra ising the civil achievements of the dynastic founde rs and Jeongdaeeop (Founding a Great Dynasty) w as a suite of 15 pieces praising their military accom plishments.

 Dokdo is 92km southeast of Ullungdo. It as the most eastern p oint of Korea. The exact location is Long. 132 。 52' 22" E. and Lat. 37 。 14' 18" N. It falls under the administration of San 1~ 37, Dodong-ri, Ullung-eup, Ullung-kun, Kyeongsangbuk-do. It is composed of Dongdo (121m above sea) and Seodo (151m ab ove sea). There are about 60 reefs distributed nearby.  The total area of Dokdo is about 18.6 ㎢.The following is a de scription of Dokdo by Kim Jisu (called Sambongdo at the time ) recorded in the 'King Seongjong Records' of the Chosun Peri od. ""Anchoring about miles west of the island, three roc ks stand high in the north followed by little islands. There is a n island in the middle and another little island in the west of t hat island. The ocean water flows through all of them. There a re about 30 doll-like figures on the ocean island, but it is too fe arful to approach so I came back with a diagram.""

The island in the middle is Seodo and the oc ean island is Dongdo. By ocean water flowi ng through, he refers to the m wid th waterway in between the two islands. Th e Ullung-kun office explains the 30 dolls as referring to sea lions that used to live there about 20 years ago. They have all disappea red due to hunting by the Japanese.

He was soon followed by swimming sensation Park Tae-h wan in the men's 400-m freestyle and the men's and w omen's archery teams. Park Tae-hwan, also known as 'Marine Boy' in Korea, b rought the country's historic first-ever swimming Oly mpic gold in the men's 400-meter freestyle. Park, who turns 19 next month, set a new Asian record of three-minutes and seconds, defeating Australi an favorite Grant Hackett, a two-time Olympic gold me dalist.
