Task 3 Investigate the target audience of chosen media product Audience profile

This film is a romance/comedy as the cover suggests is of fairy-tale and romance. The main image contains the two main characters dressed as a queen and princess; which suggest straight away this movie is going to be aimed at a target audience of girls aged 8+ as this looks like a ‘the’ typical chic flic. The fact they’re dressed like royalty advocates elements of the traditional fairy tale story. The colour scheme is light colours showing blues, white and pinks, this fits with the target audience as it is aimed for 8+ girls going into the teenage stage. The title on this cover is written in pink flowing writing creating an emotive mystical, fairy-tale buzz. As you can see from the cover, the younger princess is wearing headphones and is not looking as serious as the queen this shows disobedience and how she’s doing it her own way. Looking rebellious. The central image is large and it will be the first thing the audience will see. The image also helps with what the film will be about – in this case the two main characters are Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews. Julie Andrews has stared in various fairy-tale like films such as; Marry Poppins, sound of Music. The type of films you could take youngsters too. From the audience point of view, if I was too see Julie on the front of this DVD case I would know it is going appeal me as well as a younger audience. it Anne Hathaway is a lot younger than Julie Andrews but she has appeared in films such as; Bride Wars and Valentine’s Day. These again follow the genre of romance and comedy. Both actresses have been in this genre before but have also stared in other genres. will appeal to young girls (target audience) which will make them want to watch it.

Short description of the story of this movie. Screenshots of movie that help the audience get idea of what movie is about. The description on back of the DVD helps to advertise the story and attract the audiences attention which helps to sell the movie. It also gives a brief description of the storyline which gives the viewer an idea of what the genre could be. Production and actor information. Bonus features

P2 – Secondary Data I used the following websites to help me with my research: https://yougov.co.uk/find-solutions/profiles/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page http://www.imdb.com/ Secondary research shows that the target audience of my chosen media text is as follows: Age – This film is rated a PG. PG means Parental Guidance General viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for young children A PG film should not unsettle a child aged around eight or older. Unaccompanied children of any age may watch, but parents are advised to consider whether the content may upset younger, or more sensitive, children. So I think this films general age range is 12+. It is appealing to young (under 18) girls. However could be also Enjoyable to other adult women and men who just want a happy trip to fantasy land with no worries about sex, blood, or foul language. Gender – genuinely aimed at girls due to the fairy-tale element to the story line. Lifestyle – my finding suggest that people who watch this film are young and active, who live like a young adult. This film has elements of fantasy, romance and comedy this will appeal to those who are seen as typical ‘girly girls’. Also, a lot of young girls want to fantasize about being a princess. My interpretation of the secondary information above is
