Bedmaking Clean, neat, wrinkle free bed: Increases comfort Prevents skin breakdown and decubitus ulcers In the LTCF linens are completely changed on the resident's shower or bath day.

Types of Beds: Closed bed Open bed Occupied bed Resident is up for the day; top sheet & bedspread covers the bed Resident is ready to get back in bed; top sheet and bedspread folded down Resident is in the bed

Linens Bottom sheet Draw sheet Top sheet Bedspread pillowcase Hold linens away from your body Never shake linens Place clean linens on clean surfaces Never place linens on the floor Collect linens in the order of use

Quality of Life The bed must be neat, clean, and well made. The person, family, and visitors question the quality of care and the person’s quality of life if the bed is unmade, messy, or dirty. The bed helps provide an orderly and pleasant setting. If the person stays in bed, straighten and tighten sheets and other linen as needed. Some persons bring bedspreads, pillows, blankets, afghans, and quilts from home. Allow personal choice when possible
