Cleveland Public Library “Together We Are Better” Cleveland Public Library We are the “People’s University,” the center of learning for a diverse and inclusive community Our Mission

“Together we are better” The Need 44% of clients at local hunger centers are children and seniors The city’s poverty rate is 54%, second only to Detroit at 59%. 69% of adults read below the 7th grade level. 33.5% of households do not have internet access, among the ten worst cities in the country.

Summer Meals & Kids Cafe “Together we are better” Summer Meals & Kids Cafe Meals provided to children at all 28 CPL branches. This summer CPL sites will serve approximately 18,500 meals The Kids Cafe program serves after school meals at all 28 sites during the school year. A total of over 150,000 meals served in 2015. Meals at library sites are cold meals which do not require heating A sandwich with appropriate condiments Milk A vegetable item A fruit item

“Together We Are Better” ConnectEd Partnered with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and the Mayor’s office to put a library card in every child’s hands. 15,000 new cardholders added just this summer. Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority a strong partner in the Summer Reading Program. A joint “amnesty program” for all children in Cuyahoga County for 2016 National Library Signup month. Altgeld Gardens – Chicago Public Housing – new library

“Together We Are Better” ConnectHome Nine total training sessions with 254 students and 200 parents. Over 200 tablets and Mifis provided to students with 150 more planned. Families have to find a way to provide for basic necessities during the course of four 15-minute “weeks” Families each have their own challenges, including homelessness, unemployment, low wages, disability, etc.
