Presentation transcript:

MARTIN LUTHER KING 1929 MLK was born in Georgia where he attended segregated public schools. 1954 MLK became a pastor in the Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. He worked to get civil rights for black people. 1955 He led the bus boycott, the first great black non violent demonstration in the USA. The boycott lasted 382 days: black people refused to use segregated buses in Montgomery (Rosa Parks).

1956 the Supreme Court of the USA declared segregation on buses unconstitutional. 1963 MLK organized the peaceful march of Washington DC. 250,000 people listened to his famous speech “I have a dream”.

In his famous speech he talked about his hopes for the future when blacks and whites could be brothers. 1964 MLK received the Nobel Peace Prize. 1968 MLK was assassinated.
