Holly Black and her writing style

Facts about Holly Black Holly currently lives in New England with her husband and son. Her house even has a secret door. One of Hollys books Ironside spent 5 weeks on the New York Times bestsellers list The 5 book series Spiderwick has been called “vintage Victorian fantasy” by the New York Post and Time magazine

What are some awards Holly has won John Newberry Medal 2014 for her book Doll Bones Andre Norton Award 2005 for one f her books Valiant: a modern tale of faerie

When was Holly Black born? Holly Black was born on November 10th, 1971 She was born in West Long Branch, New Jersey

What is Hollys writing style? Holly tends to write faerie tales and spooky books. Like her books Spiderwick and Valient both have faeries in it. Doll Bones is a more creepy and mysterious book. It’s about a doll that threatens 3 kids that if they don’t bury her in her grave she will kill them. Spiderwick is a mixture of spooky and mystical. It's about 3 kids that find a book about faeries and goblins and a bunch of other creatures, one of the three believe the book is real, the other two are in for a surprise when they realize it is all too true.

Books

What are some of Hollys book characters? Out of the 3 books I read there were 3 main characters in the books. There character traits are all the same. Poppy and Mallory: the determined ones Mallory kept trying to fight off goblin's without being able to see them. Poppy wanted to keep going to the dolls grave even though no none else did. Zach and Jared: the book worms Zach carried his travel guide in his backpack and every time they got lost he would take it out and read what to do Jared always checked the faerie book when he saw something suspicious Simon and Alice: the nervous ones Alice was worried they were going to get caught sneaking around in the library Simon wanted nothing to do with the faerie book because he didn’t want to get hurt

Did I like the books? Do I recommend these books? I really liked the books. I never got tired of reading them. Every chapter had me on the edge of my seat. I liked that there were cliffhangers so that i would be excited to keep reading more. I also liked that the characters changed throughout the book and went back to how they were before. I would highly recommend these books; they were very exciting, they had a lot going on, there was never a dull moment, and they were very entertaining.

Book Summaries Doll Bones: Doll Bones is about three kids that play a game that involves an old doll. One of the kids decides to take the doll off the shelve. that night she woke up to a dead body in her room. the three kids go on an adventure to go bury the doll before the doll does something terrible to them find out in Doll Bones. Spiderwick The Field Guide: Jared finds a book about faeries. Jared believes the book and the creatures inside are real his twin brother and older sister don't believe him. But one night when his sisters hair was ties to her bed and his brothers animals went missing they start to believe it is all too real. Spiderwick The Seeing Stone: Jared gets a terrible message that if he does not get rid of the book his fate will be the same as all the others who had the book before him. When he doesn't get rid of the book his brother is taken by goblins, the only thing is he goblins are invisible to the human eye. can he save his brother before it's too late.

Themes Both Spiderwick books: “Sometimes you have to trust what you don't believe in.” Doll Bones: “There are consequences to your actions”
