Presentation transcript:

Administration of Undiluted Ferrlecit 12.5 mg/ml Note: MAXIMUM Rate is 12.5 mg/minute; 125 mg dose over at least 10 minutes. The IV irons can be given anytime during HD as not removed but would need to get the dose in before the last 30 min of HD as patient needs to be observed for 30 min post IV iron dose.   Instructions for administration: *Attach 10 ml syringe containing ~ 5 mL of sterile NS to the venous infusion port of the dialysis bloodlines. Withdraw air from port using the syringe with NS and irrigate. Disconnect the NS syringe from the venous infusion port  and attach 10 mL syringe containing Ferrlecit 12.5 mg/mL. Infuse 1 mL (12.5 mg) and clamp the infusion port. After at least  1 minute infuse another 1  mL of Ferrlecit and clamp the infusion port. Repeat step 5 until ordered dose given.   *Flush the port with NS prior to iron administration using a prefilled syringe to decrease risk of air to the patient as there is some “dead space” in the port

Administration of Undiluted Venofer 20 mg/ml Note: MAXIMUM Rate is 20 mg/minute; 100-200 mg dose over at least 10 minutes. Disconnect the NS syringe from the venous infusion port  and attach 10 mL syringe containing Venofer 20 mg/mL. Infuse 1 mL (20 mg) and clamp the infusion port. After at least  1 minute infuse another 1  mL of Venofer and clamp the infusion port. Repeat step 5 until ordered dose given.   *Flush the port with NS prior to iron administration using a prefilled syringe to decrease risk of air to the patient as there is some “dead space” in the port
