next How did we get here? Before we move forward with our strategic planning and looking into the future, it is important to provide some context and ensure people understand where we came from.
next How did we get here? Holland Orthopaedic & Arthritic Centre In 2006, we ‘de-merged’ with Women’s College but the birthing program and neo-natal intensive care came to Sunnybrook in a brand new facility that opened in September 2010. Construction of Sunnybrook began on Remembrance Day in 1944. Founded in 1948 as Canada’s largest veterans hospital (still retains this distinction today). Merger with Orthopaedic & Arthritic Centre and Women’s College in 1998. Land was sold to University of Toronto in 1966 (for one silver dollar). Trauma program added in 1976 (largest in Canada). Cancer Centre 1981 (second largest in Canada). In 2011, we welcomed St. John’s Rehab to the Sunnybrook family as the Hospital’s eighth program.
