They provide more information, not in complete sentences, but in clauses and phrases, nouns and adjectives. Sentence combining The zombie sauntered. The zombie shrieked. Its listless eyes scared me. Its arms were tattered and bruised. The zombie moaned, sauntering about as his listless eyes and tattered, bruised arms scared me. The tattered, bruised arms of the zombies scared me as he sauntered about, moaning as he went.

Right branching sentence. Electric wires were torn free. They were broken. They sizzled. They sparked. They were on the ground.

Right branching, Participial Phrases A right branching sentence allows us to provide more information without overloading the main clause. They provide more information, not in complete sentences, but in clauses and phrases, nouns and adjectives. Christmas music starts early, allowing children to get into the holiday season shortly after Thanksgiving. Independent Clause + Dependent clause (participial phrase). Student mistakes: If then statements Coordinating conjunctions Comma splices

Right branching sentences with participial phrases Santa Claus is from the North Pole. Santa Claus likes watching Christmas movies. His favorite Christmas movies are Home Alone, The Muppet Christmas Carol, and It’s a Wonderful Life. Santa Claus lets his reindeer watch movies via Bluetooth as they fly.

Right branching sentences with participials. Elf on the shelf is always taking notes. Elf on the shelf hides when you’re not looking. Elf on the shelf reports back to Santa Claus. Elf on the shelf reports back to Santa Claus with his iPhone 7s Plus via Bluetooth. The only time Santa Claus reprimanded Elf on the shelf occurred on a day when Elf was streaming movies on his iPhone and didn’t take any field notes.
