Challenges we face as we work toward our VISION New reforms have changed board operations, superintendent responsibilities, and accountability system. Louisiana Student State Standards and LEAP assessments widened the achievement gap for our students and teachers. LDOE Assessments have forced school district to update all technology and infrastructure. Funding is very limited. Although we are a small school system, the work load and responsibilities are the same as larger school districts. Inadequate teacher pay. Inadequate community support and interest in the school district with regard to curriculum and instruction.

Purpose Three Points: Present current initiatives that support our district VISION. Articulate the path forward to building an “A” rated school system. Discuss the Wilson Foundation grant application.

Mastery is the new Basic

Purpose Discuss the Wilson Foundation grant application. Three Points: Present current initiatives that support our district VISION. Articulate the path forward to building an “A” rated school system. Discuss the Wilson Foundation grant application.

Technology in the Classroom St. Helena Parish School District is in dire need of new technology devices in the classroom to facilitate active, engaging instruction in the classroom, and fulfill the mandate by LDOE to conduct online annual assessments through the use of computers.

Project Goal St. Helena Parish School District seeks to improve student achievement by implementing 1:1 Technology in all our classrooms through the use of portable laptop carts in every classroom. This project will help begin the process by providing all 5th and 6th grade students with a laptop.

Benefits of the Opportunity SHATA Students Special Education Students progress with the use of technology Support technology mandates. St. Helena relies solely on grants and Title funds to purchase technology. Small, rural school districts will flourish with technology. Proximity Learning – Spanish I Classes Louisiana A+ Arts Integration Activities Classroom instruction Benchmark/Annual Assessments

Project Evaluation Weekly review of lesson plans to ensure technology-rich activities. Weekly job-embedded professional development meetings with teachers that promote technological instructional strategies. Student-centered work that display the use of technology. Data-driven decision-making by teachers after online assessments.
