A Sinner We speak frequently about sin Take for granted that people know what we’re talking about What is sin, who is a sinner, and what should we do about it?

What Is Sin? In the Old Testament Genesis 4:3-7 – sin coucheth at the door Genesis 18:20-21 – their sin is very grievous Genesis 39:7-9 – sin against God

What Is Sin? In the Old Testament Definition: “A verb meaning to miss the mark, to wrong, to sin, to lead into sin … Its central meaning is to miss the mark or fail.”

What Is Sin? In the New Testament John 15:22-24 – they had not had sin John 16:7-11 – in respect of sin James 1:13-15 – sin when it is fullgrown

What Is Sin? In the New Testament Definition: “Sin, missing the true end and scope of our lives, which is God. An offense in relation to God with emphasis on guilt.”

What Is Sin? God’s one-line definition I John 3:4 – “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” (KJV)

Who Is A Sinner? King David Paul Acts 13:22 – a man after My heart II Samuel 12: 5,7,13 – I have sinned against Jehovah Paul Philippians 3:17 – imitators … of me I Timothy 1:15 – I am chief Romans 7:24-25 – Wretched man

Who Is A Sinner? Romans 3:23 – “for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God”

What Should I Do About Sin? Recognize it II Timothy 2:15 – study (KJV) I John 1:6-10 – If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves But we must not be angry when we find this in ourselves Genesis 4:1-7 – do thou rule over it

What Should I Do About Sin? Admit it Luke 18:13 – God, be thou merciful Luke 15:21 – I have sinned Acts 8:24 – Pray ye for me to the Lord

What Should I Do About Sin? Change my life Acts 8:22 – Repent … of this thy wickedness Acts 3:19 – Repent … turn again Acts 17:30 – All everywhere repent II Corinthians 7:8-10 – godly sorrow worketh repentance unto salvation

What Should I Do About Sin? Strive to live purely Romans 6:17-18 – servants of righteousness I Timothy 1:5 – a pure heart and a good conscience Revelation 2:10b – faithful unto death

In Conclusion Sin is transgression of law Romans 5:12-14 – death reigned from Adam until Moses

In Conclusion All have sinned Hebrews 4:14-15 – Jesus … without sin I Peter 2:21-25 – Christ … who did no sin

In Conclusion We must recognize our sins, confess them to God, turn from them, and live pure lives

“What Must I Do To Be Saved?” Hear the Word of God Romans 10:8 – “But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach” Believe in that Word Romans 10:11 – “For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be put to shame.”

“What Must I Do To Be Saved?” Repent of your sins Acts 3:19 – “Repent ye therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, that so there may come seasons of refreshing from the presence of the Lord” Confess that Jesus is the Son of God I John 4:15 – “Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abideth in him, and he in God.”

“What Must I Do To Be Saved?” Be immersed in water (baptized) Acts 2:38 – “And Peter (said) unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
