Extraction of caffeine I don’t feel sleepy!!! Extraction of caffeine Ito Takumi Sawada Taiki Takahashi Yusuke (Hayashi Haruka)

This effect is caused by caffeine! We are sometimes sleepy during class. And we drink energy drink or coffee. We are not sleepy at all. ・We often watch energy drinks and coffees in the dust box during test week. This effect is cause of caffeine.

wrap up We are interested in Caffeine and researched the amount of it included in personal belonging drinks. We wonder that what drinks include caffeine and how much quantity is included. Then we did experiment through two ways.

The first experiment ①We prepared 30 g of samples and water 500 g. ↓ ②We mixed them and heated up. ③We cooled it for ten minutes. ④Using gauze, filtered it. ⑤We vaporized it.

・With sublimation technique, we could not see crystal of caffeine. So…. We used a distillation method.

The second experiment ①We use coffee, tea ,barley tea(non caffeine) and tea.We measure 30g of them and 500g of water. Then we heat water. ②Before boiling, we put them in the beaker. We left it for 10 minutes. 30g 500g

③We filter it by gauze and cool it slowly ③We filter it by gauze and cool it slowly. ④We filtered under reduced pressure using a filtration flask, Buchner funnel. ⑤We extract caffeine by chloroform.

⑥We filter layer of chloroform that we take by diatomaceous earth.

⑦We add Sulphur trioxide sodium to it and remove water. ⑧We removed chloroform using distillation under reduced pressure method with rotary evaporator and regard it as caffeine.

Tea Green tea Barley tea Coffee

Future problem We want to measure mass of caffeine in future. In addition, we want to remove it because impurities are included in a material with the viscosity.

Thank you for listening★
