The Problem As staff transition out of Central City, valuable information goes with them.

YOU!

My project! The Problem The Solution As staff transition out of Central City, valuable information goes with them. The Solution My project!

My project is a handbook for everything Central City does My project is a handbook for everything Central City does. This includes… Candyland at Biola Yikes! WACC game day Family Christmas party AIA beach trip Thanksgiving Outreach Event Church beach trip Fridays at Glady’s Park Easter event Christmas toy store Youth college trip Inner City Arts Biola sleepover Summer camp Winter camp VBS Christmas caroling at the old folks home

Mondays at Grady’s For each write up on each event that Central City does, I include the following: The purpose of the event A short description of the event A breakdown of the event’s schedule Nitty gritty details

Mondays at Grady’s Purpose: During our regular program during the school year, we do not have many opportunities to connect with parents. The purpose of this event is to spend a day with our students and families enjoying the summer and developing deeper relationships with all of them, especially the parents.

Mondays at Grady’s Description: Every Monday during the summer, staff, students, and parents from Central City head up to Arleta, CA to spend a day at Grady’s house. We barbeque, swim, and relax together all day.

Mondays at Grady’s Schedule: The event occurs each Monday in the summer except for the Vacation Bible School week in mid-July. The daily schedule is broken down below: 10:00 am - meet at Central City, people at Grady’s begin setting up for the day 10:30 am - leave for Arleta 11:00 am - arrive at Grady’s, welcome everyone, and review rules/expectations 12:30 pm - eat lunch, pool closed 1:00 pm - pool reopens 2:45 pm - warn the kids that we will leave in 15 minutes 3:00 pm - close up 3:30 pm - leave for Central City 4:00 pm - arrive at Central City

Mondays at Grady’s Details Grady’s address: 11 Hoofmort St Arleta, CA 91331  Union Rescue Mission provides transportation to and from the event. Contact them well in advance to set up transportation for each Monday in the summer. Make sure that you remember to invite the bus driver in to eat lunch! During the summer, we often have groups that come to Los Angeles from around the country to work with Central City. Mondays at Grady’s are an excellent opportunity for them to hang out with the kids, chat with the parents, and help out with the event through handling various responsibilities (see the how to prep document) and planning games and activities for the kids to enjoy. Save plastic silverware and plastic cups by washing them each week to be reused throughout the summer.

Mondays at Grady’s Shopping List Food Hamburgers Hamburger buns Cheese Hot dogs Hot dog buns Mustard Mayonnaise Catsup For eating the food Plates Forks Cups Napkins Relish Chips Onions Tomatoes Lettuce Potato or Macaroni Salad Watermelon Kool-Aid or Lemonade   Other items Charcoal Lighter Fluid Sunscreen Bandaids

Responsibilities for Mondays at Grady’s Setting up before the event: Look for ants and spray where needed. Put away all the dishes in the dishwasher and wipe down the kitchen counters. Take out all of the trash. This includes the two bathrooms, the kitchen, the patio trash, and the recycling. Lay two towels on the ground by the back door so that when wet and dirty feet walk in and out, they track on the towels rather than the wood floor. Unlock the front door. (Do not forget to lock it when you leave.) Sweep the back patio. Clean the tables. Look for cobwebs and knock them down with your broom. Sweep around the pool. Clean the pool of leaves. The pool sweep is located on top of the wooden beams above Grady’s back patio. Sweep the front porch and walkway. Sweep by the back door that enters the den and play room. Wind up the hose. Put the dog crate outside. Pull out the floaters from pool. Water all of the plants. Start the coals.

Responsibilities for Mondays at Grady’s Cleaning up after the event: Clean up all of the food and take it inside to the fridge or the countertop. Put all of the dishes in the dishwasher and start it. Clean the kitchen. Wash the tables and the counters. Take an inventory so we can shop for next week’s barbeque. Walk around the house and make sure that there are no cups lying around or towels. Store away the pool sweep. Put 2 tablets in every floater and put the floaters back in the pool. Clean out the pool trap. Walk around the property and pick up all of the trash. Take out all of the trash. Bring in the stereo. Pick up all of the towels, shake them out outdoors, and start the washing machine. Check the pool timer and the direction of the handles to make sure they are in the proper place. Turn off the pool heater. Put the dog crate back inside. Make sure the dog has water. Lock the front door. Lock all the other doors.

YOU!

The end.
