South Lewis Faculty Meetings April 2017 Focus Areas for the Year: -Giving Students Feedback – Nov & Mar -Best Instructional Practices - Nov -Character Counts – Oct, Nov & Now -Educating Students from Poverty – Oct, Feb. & Mar -Growth Mindset – Oct, Feb & Now

Growth Mindset and CC… Video Identify at least 5 examples of words or phrases from one of the hand outs on Growth Mindset and Character Counts that you see in the video. Is this video appropriate for you to share with your students? Post the handouts in your room and discuss them with students.

Committee Up-Dates… 12:1:1 – we have selected a curriculum called Unique and News 2 You for our three 12:1:1 classrooms This is one of the only curriculums available that was created specifically for students who take the alternate assessment and are substantially below level Content is up-dated and evolves constantly, it’s on-line and never stagnant Includes all subject areas, life skills, and current events The 3 teachers have had access to it since Jan. 2017

Committee Up-Dates… SS Curriculum/Textbook The committee reviewed 3 – Nystrom, McGraw Hill and Discovery Education We have chosen to have McGraw Hill’s 2014 digital textbook available to all SS teachers next school year, K-12 Teachers will also have Brain Honey/Buzz and the 6 NYS inquiries available (we are teaching a minimum of 2 inquiries this year, and will do a minimum of 4 inquiries next year)

Committee Up-Dates… SS Curriculum/Textbook Strengths: aligns with 1:1 initiative comes with on-line text, videos, assessments, games (but the teacher can add their own items like videos, customize any tasks, assign what they’d like) You can differentiate the reading level for students, struggling readers can have the text read to them Grades 6-11 come with Learn Smart (personalized learning – gets harder and/or easier and scaffolds help based on how students respond) Is based on the new SS Framework that came out 2 years ago We are committing to a 1-year contract

Committee Up-Dates… 1:1 Technology In 2017-18 we will be 1:1, UPK-12: Currently in the process of increasing band- width and wifi capabilities (each room with it’s own wifi for up to 32 devices) Plan: UPK-8 = devices kept at school 9-12 = students take devices home Device: UPK-3 = i-pads 4-12 = chrome books (i-pad carts will be accessible for classes if they are planning an activity that requires i-pads)

Committee Up-Dates… 1:1 Technology In 2017-18 we will be 1:1, UPK-12: Re-structuring of Tech Dept. (potential of additional staff) Setting up faculty and student accounts Trouble-shooting broken, forgotten and uncharged devices Professional development support Professional Development: June and Sept. 2017 (Supt. Days) – Google Suite Summer 2017 Various Tech Offerings Throughout the School Year 2017-18 Faculty Meetings Grade Level and Dept. Meetings Tech Integration Days, 1/month in each building, teachers can sign up during a planning period for 1:1 assistance with tech. dept.
