2. SPEED CONTROL - changes the “gear” or speed that the machine can sew ALWAYS SET ON LOW! 1. POWER SWITCH - turns the machine on and off
3. FOOT PEDAL - use your foot on this to control the speed of sewing machine (like a car gas pedal)
5. HANDWHEEL CHOKE – pull this button out to stop needle motion – for bobbin winding 4. HANDWHEEL - for sewing slowly, one stitch at a time ALWAYS TURN TOWARD YOU!
7. SPOOL PIN CAP - plastic disc that keeps the spool of thread in place 6. SPOOL PIN - plastic post that holds the spool of thread while sewing
8. THREAD GUIDE - small, round guide keeps the thread moving smoothly through the machine
9. TAKE UP LEVER - metal “arm” moves up and down along the edge of side door – takes up thread slack
11. NEEDLE SCREW - clamps the needle into the machine 10. SEWING MACHINE NEEDLE - sturdy needle, with a flat back for machine sewing 12. PRESSER FOOT - “skis” hold the fabric down as you are sewing
13. PRESSER FOOT LIFTER - lever that raises and lowers the presser foot
14. FEED DOGS - jagged metal bars under presser foot, move fabric through machine 15. THROAT PLATE - square metal plate under presser foot, covers bobbin case & moving parts below
16. SEAM GUIDE LINES - lines etched on the throat plate, helps sew a straight seam a certain distance from edge of fabric 17. BOBBIN CASE - plastic & metal container that holds the bobbin while sewing
20. STITCH LENGTH DIAL - a dial for increasing/decreasing the length of stitches 19. STITCH PATTERN SELECTOR - a dial for selecting different stitch designs 18. REVERSE BUTTON – hold down this button to sew backwards (in reverse)
22. PRESSURE DIAL (black) - a dial to adjust the pressure of the presser foot according to fabric thickness 21. TENSION DIAL (white) - a dial that tightens or loosens thread tension
