In your literature textbook… Read pp. 1048-1061. Define Modernism in terms of Literature Art History

Modern Period in History This period is marked by major technological advancements brought on by the work of many scientists, mathematicians, and especially inventors: airplane, automobile, telephone, atomic bomb. History in terms of modernism is the fragmentation of the world that leads to multiple wars: WWI, Nazism, Great Depression, WWII.

Modernism in Literature Modernism is looking at the different cultural, social, and scientific advancements around the world in a different perspective. Modernism in terms of literature introduces exposure to literary movements and traditions of other cultures such as Latin America. Despair, anxiety, uncertainty, challenge to elders Ambiguous endings, readers must draw own conclusions

Modernism in Art Modernists challenged the idea that art must realistically depict the world. They experimented with the use of color and used new techniques and mediums. Themes include: the subconscious, Symbolism, and various iconography.
