The Counseling Center Supports Your Students By: Teaching Guidance Lessons around time management, college and career research and exploration, and equity. Running small groups for students who need a little extra support on issues of depression, anxiety, and healthy relationships and communication. If there is a greater need around these issues for a student I refer to outside providers. Supporting student’s individual academic needs with regular grade checks and quarterly check-ins. Being available for students when they’re struggling emotionally, socially, and academically and providing support. Celebrating with our students and letting them know how proud we are of them!

Tips for Academic Success Review what happens at school every night. Don’t ask if they have homework, they do! Check planners and/or Outlook for details. Specific assignment info is often on OneNote. Check grades online weekly with your student. When there is a question regarding a class, have your student meet with or email the teacher. Encourage Self-Advocacy.
Getting Ready For College (It’s all about exploration) Focus on classes! It’s important that students work hard now and learn as much as they can. Get involved and explore extra- curricular activities. If you are on a vacation, have the time, and happen to be by a college campus go ahead and check it out with your student. No need to actually plan college visits at this time, though.
