Let’s Frame Our Thinking Survey Results -2,844 Student interest - sustainability- population from year to year Expanding world language offerings Cost Resources Teacher Certifications What level (ES,MS,HS) to introduce course and impact on building schedule Curriculum - course sequence that will provide opportunity to advance (AP/ SAT II) Commitment for students to succeed in college and/or careers
High School Course Offerings Spanish Spanish for Heritage Speakers @ HS West French Latin German @ HS East Italian @ HS West Pilot Chinese 1 for the 2018 - 2019 School Year @ East and West Pilot Chinese 1 & 2 for the 2019-2020 school Year @ East and West We will talk about the impact of the program is it sustainable? Student enrollment, interest, maintaining a staff member or staff retention
Considerations Moving Forward Please refer to World Language Data Collection Handout Curriculum Exploration NJDOE Certification Recruitment - Job Posting Build a C & I level chart Based on the data we went back to the schools we collected world language data on and reviewed the curriculum Share basic information from each of the schools curriculum. Human Resources reached out to DOE regarding certifications Plan to post the position in January so we can have a candidate in place for September 1.
Next Steps - Long Term (October 2017 - June 2018) Recommendations for overall World Language Program High School level pilot for 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 Budget development for the 2018-2019 academic year Course of Study - Description / advertising of course World Language Curriculum Audit - basic framework and revisions Revisions to current course curriculum Grades 1st - 8th (grades 9 -12 revised during the 2016 - 2017 school year) Feedback from teachers, students, former students So now that we have the survey data we will be able to make an informed recommendation regarding the program. We will have that by November C & I meeting.
