Shutdown conclusion, LS1 and LS2 planning - A.Tauro DCal meeting 14.3.2012 15/3/12 Shutdown conclusion, LS1 and LS2 planning - A.Tauro

Shutdown conclusion, LS1 and LS2 planning - A.Tauro LS1 plans LS1 will start towards end November 2012 (week 48) and will last for approximately 18 to 20 months (i.e. till July 2014). Let’s suppose 19 months: this corresponds to 83 weeks Baseline plan (if SPD cooling problem fixed in 2011/12): Add 5 TRD modules Add 6 (or 8) DCal modules Add 1 PHOS module Plan B.1: ITS consolidation (get PP3 access to remove SPD filters): Baseline + remove MNF and displace TPC Plan B.2: SPD repair: Baseline + remove MNF, displace TPC, and remove SPD detector 15/3/12 Shutdown conclusion, LS1 and LS2 planning - A.Tauro

Baseline plan Miniframe removal vs. suspension Should we remove the MNF in LS1? Reminder: we can carry out LS1 plan without removing the MNF: Bottom TRD modules  MNF suspension. DCal installation  MNF in place. MNF removal: pros cons Better TPC accessibility A-side. L3 totally free on the A-side (easier manipulation of PHOS-DCal cradles and DCal rails). Disconnect TPC/ITS services in PP0 and PP1. TPC and ITS re-commissioning lengthy. Remove RB24 beampipe and compensator magnet. Forward detectors stay in place (but for PMD) 15/3/12 Shutdown conclusion, LS1 and LS2 planning - A.Tauro

Baseline plan Miniframe removal vs. suspension Both the removal/reinstallation and the suspension are quite delicate operations. We have already gone through both of them in the past. Last year we have improved the MNF suspension tool and tested it on the surface, with a new hydraulic system. The overhead of PP0 & PP1 disconnection / reconnection is considerable, and the time to re-commission the detector is unpredictable (bug fixes, broken fibers,…) Conclusion: we do not plan to remove the MNF in LS1. 15/3/12 Shutdown conclusion, LS1 and LS2 planning - A.Tauro

Shutdown conclusion, LS1 and LS2 planning - A.Tauro Baseline plan Remove plug, mobile shielding, open doors 2 Remove PHOS, cradle, rails 4 Install DCAL Rails & Cradle 6 Concrete walls & TRD installation frame 1.5 TRD 4/5 (top) & counterweights 1.5 Suspend Miniframe 1.5 TRD 12/13/14 with yellow platform (bottom) 2 ‘Un-suspend’ Miniframe 1.5 Install 6 (or 8) DCAL modules 4 Install 4 PHOS modules 2 Close plug, mobile shielding 3 Contingency 3 ---------------------------- 32 weeks PHOS & DCAL services in parallel Removal and reinstallation of V0/PMD; removal and reinstallation of compensator magnet; removal, reinstallation and bakeout of RB24 beampipe and ‘consolidation’ are in parallel. 15/3/12 Shutdown conclusion, LS1 and LS2 planning - A.Tauro
