Commensalism is a biotic interaction that is beneficial to one organism, the commensal, while the other is unaffected.
Biotic Relationships:
Wildlife 10/20.  Symbiosis is the close and often long lasting relationship that exists between two biologically different species.
Symbiotic Relationships. Symbiosis Symbiosis is a close ecological relationship between the individuals of two (or more) different species.
Population – group of individuals of the same species

SYMBIOSIS: relationships in nature. Definition of Adaptation Characteristics that allow an animal to survive in its environment. These characteristics.

Interactions in ecosystems
Community Interactions. Community interactions, such as competition, predation, and various forms of symbiosis, can powerfully affect an ecosystem.
Symbiosis A relationship where two organisms (of different species) live together.
Symbiotic Relationships Mutualism- benefits both organisms Commensalism- benefits one and the other is neither helped nor harmed Parasitism- benefits one.
Species Interactions. When organisms live together in a community, they interact constantly. These interactions help shape the ecosystem they live in.
Mutualism Both species benefit “+ +” relationship Examples – Ants protect aphids that provide them food – Clown fish / sea anemones.
How Organisms Get Their Energy
Aim: How do symbiotic relationships differ? DO NOW 1.Describe what you see in this image. 2.Do you think this fish is being harmed? Explain why or why.
Not all relationships are predator - prey. What is symbiosis? What are the different kinds of symbiosis? Examples SYMBIOSIS.

Commensalism, Mutualism & Parasitism Habitats and interactions 1pt By Max Malouf

Commensalism Commensalism is the interaction between 2 organisms were 1 organism benefits and the other does not. For example: ‘Cattle egrets’ – These are birds that live near cattle because when the cattle ‘graze’, their movements stir up insects. These birds feed of the insects benefiting the bird and not harming the cow. Example 2: These live in anemones which protects them from predators. Predators are poisoned by the nematocysts of the anemones.

Mutualism Mutualism in an interaction between 2 organisms were both organisms benefit. For example: Digestive bacteria and humans – humans have what are often called ‘good’ bacteria this bacteria lives in the digestive system. The bacteria lives in order to help the human digest food. Tasty Example 2: The sea anemones are saved by the clownfish from being eaten by their predators, the butterfly fish. These live in anemones which protects them from predators. Predators are poisoned by the nematocysts of the anemones.

Parasitism Parasitism is an interaction between 2 organisms where 1 benefits in and the other is harmed. For example: A mosquito biting a human. The mosquito benefits because is feeds on the blood. Example 2: leeches are very similar to mosquitos they puncher your skin and such on your blood and feed on it
