San Jose Diridon Station Regional Context General idea of how the station connects to the regional rail system, airports, and highways. Location of station in SJC.

It is More Than a Transit Hub Couple of slides on Denver Union Station and surrounding development

Existing conditions 15,000 daily passengers (all modes) 9 platforms Trackage Rights South of Diridon constrain station to “stub-end” type operations Limited passenger rail Diridon to Gilroy Caltrain Daytime layover Tenant RR needs for layover/storage MT 1 for Amtrak/UPRR Lightrail station, local and regional buses Historical Station Some notes on existing conditions/functionality of the station

Transit Investments at Diridon Caltrain Electrification - 2022 HSR San Jose to Merced - 2025 VTA’s BART Silicon Valley Phase II - 2026 ACE Forward and CCJPA VIP Starting the framework of why this plan is needed – there are major investments about to take place at Diridon

Preliminary Project Schedules Leads into the different agency construction schedules: There is a lot happening here! Demonstrates how the various projects are interrelated and the amount of coordination that will be necessary for the construction.

Downtown Expansion & Integration City’s Role in project – Ensuring Station Access and Community/Neighborhoods are incorporated into the study

Interagency Partnership – Guiding Principles for Station Concept Plan   Develop a more integrated community engagement by all agencies for work related directly to the Intermodal Station. Treat the San Jose Diridon Station area as a singular, urban transit project rather than an overlap of several capital projects. Focus on the interaction and cohesiveness between transit systems, public space, and private development. Plan and design transit and station infrastructure for future capacity needs. Delineate the spatial needs of the station to support the rail and transit operations while focusing on the experience of the transit and station user. Emphasize regional interconnectivity to expand and enhance the service provided to customers and its ability to relieve regional traffic congestion. Because of all these activities – partnership has been made and will require significant effort to manage the group including facilitators Justification for why this is a new study

Private / Commercial Development 50% of adjacent property is publicly owned Development integrated with Station 6m to 8m SF 15,000 to 20,000 jobs Public Access key factor Google Development is an impact on the study and will need to be integrated in many factors

How does it all fit together

Key Needs from Consultant Team Agency Coordination Constraint/Conflict Management Establish Priorities amongst Agencies Operational Management Funding & Risks Construction Costs Construction Phasing Spatial / Functional Layout

Questions All questions must be submitted by email no later than November 21st to the Designated Point of Contact at: trish.kane@vta.org

Key Considerations of Spatial / Functional Layout Existing rail lines & operations Retail Station Capacity Private development Functional needs of operators Other project alignments Station schedules Open space Walkability between modes Historical Diridon Station Station Access by all modes PG&E Substation Interface with community & public Station entrances Building height restrictions Parking & Autonomous cars Airport People Mover (APM) Bike storage Provide list and go through some and let people ask questions

Future 2040 Transit Transfer Flows at Diridon The new station will have numerous operators, passengers, and transfers between the modes. This is why our study and interagency coordination is so important.
