Configuration of Cisco Routers in GNS3

Group Members M.Saeed Yasin Syed Kashif Raza

Table of Contents What is GNS3? Installation Configuration Making a Simple Network Router Configuration Some important commands Adding a PC to Network Checking Connectivity Conclusion

What is GNS3 ? Graphical Network Simulator Version 3 Allows simulation of complex networks GNS3 is an excellent complementary tool to real labs for Cisco network engineers Burning question is what is GNS3?

GNS3 Download Site www.gns3.net

Installation Node Types Main Workspace File options - New, Open, Save, Save As Clear topology, Show interface names, Show host names, Add a link

Configuration Step-1 Add IOS Cisco IOS = Cisco Internetwork Operating System IOS is used in all the Cisco routers, switches etc.

Configuration Step-2 Start Router Note: You must have to have an IOS for the router which you are going to use. If no potentially better idle pc value is found, run it again.

Making A Simple Network Add link Show Interface Start Routers

Router R0 Configuration You will be prompted to ‘enter initial configuration dialog?’ This all is happening in the console window.

Router R0 Configuration Protocol Configuration Similarly assign an IP of 10.0.0.2/24 to R1.

Some Important Commands Use of ‘?’ ‘Show’ command ‘ping’ command ‘configure terminal’ command ‘interface’ command

Adding PC to Network Software ‘vpcs.exe’ For details please visit wiki page.

Checking Connectivity ping traceroute Show ip route VPCS 1

Conclusion GNS3 can be used to simulate networks GNS3 can be used to design solutions for network problems On GNS3 we can practice the configuration of routers without the need of physical routers.

Thanks….. Any Questions? ….
