SATs parent workshop 15th November 2017

When is SATs week? The week for Year 6 SATS will be Monday 14th May 2017 – Thursday 17th May 2017 There will be no tests on the Friday of this week.

What SATS will the children take?

English Reading 1 hour paper 3 levels within the paper Each extract is separate and does not have links between the context. 1, 2 and 3 mark questions are available for each level of difficulty. Last years pass level was 21 MARKS.

Grammar, spelling and Punctuation Paper 1 45 minute paper Range of different elements of sentence level work: clauses, phrases, subjunctive form, fronted adverbials, the correct use of colon, semi-colons, hyphens, dashes and much, much more!! Spelling and punctuation are penalised. Simple grammar can be interpreted in different ways.

Grammarsaurus! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKBq8grT_Xo&safe=true

Grammar, spelling and punctuation Paper 2 20 spellings from the Year 3,4,5 and 6 common exception words. (spelling list) Spelling total is added to paper one to gain a mark out of 70. Last year pass level was 43 MARKS in total. Rhyme, existence, sufficient, convenience

Maths – Arithmetic Paper 1 30 minutes to complete 36 questions. All completed in formal written method. Mostly 1 mark questions but 2 marks are awarded for correct written methods. 40 marks in total on this paper.

Example

Maths – Reasoning Paper 2 and 3 35 marks which are word problems. 40 minute test. Some are one mark and some are two mark questions. Some questions require an explanation rather than a number answer. Some questions involve multi-step problems.

Example

Progress measures and what they mean. Ks1 score compared to KS2. Progress since they took the previous text. Points awarded individually for the level from KS1. KS2 – new COMPLICATED SYSTEM equating the expected progress measure. 100 scaled score is a pass (this does not necessarily mean that they have made enough progress) EG – KS1 reading score – 15.5 (2a) EXPECTED 102.5

Writing Teacher assessed

Assistance at home Practice times tables until they know they know them ‘by heart’ Continue to practice spellings each night Read every night or as regularly as possible. Read over the SATs practice questions that have been read each week in guided reading time and review these answers with your children. Twinkl BBC Top marks

SATs resources Bond books – can be ordered online but school get a discount on the cost. If there is an interested in purchasing any revision guides then mark an interest on the sheet that you signed in. We will ask if you for money for these at a later time when you can officially order.

Don’t worry! The SATs tests are not to worry about. All we ask is that children do their best!

Thank - you Any more questions?
