Lab errors Procedure!!!! You need to make sure you are clear, to the point and all your steps are there. You must # steps You must write record results and repeat if necessary

Results tables RULER NEAT TITLE Headings for all sections Characteristic Tests to determine results of Urine Analysis Tests Samples Conductivity RLP BLP Glucose Test Protein Test Unknown 1 Light Flashes Quickly Turns Blue Stays Blue Yellow paper turns green Blue liquid stays blue Unknown 2 No Light Stays Red Yellow paper stays yellow Blue liquid turns Violet

Conclusion Errors Not referring to your results Unknown 1 was glucose because… It turned the glucose paper green, it did not react to the protein test, it did not change the color of the RLP or BLP paper, it did not conduct electricity.

Lab Exam Review

Study Guide for lab exam Hypothesis: The hypothesis is………. Because……..

Materials POINT FORM!!!!! ORGANIZED, IN COLUMNS, ONLY WRITE THE ITEMS YOU ARE USING!!!!

PROCEDURE # STEPS BE SPECIFIC NO PERSONAL PRONOUNS WRITTEN IN PRESENT TENSE AND STARTS WITH AN ACTION WORD (Put, Place, Add) Always indicate to RECORD RESULTS or OBSERVATIONS Don’t for get to indicate Repeat steps when necessary

Results Table (neat and absolutely requires a ruler) TITLE !!!! Headings for all the tests you are conducting Must be very specific in results….refer to your study guide!!! Example: Red litmus Stayed red or Turned blue (do not put no change as a result)

Conclusion: Refer to your aim and hypothesis Restate you test results (be specific) Example: The protein test had a color change, the color turned from blue to purple indicating the presence of protein!!!

Test Procedures

Electrical Conductivity used to detect salts or minerals in a liquid Sample Procedure: #1: Put 5 drops of unknown #1 into a well of the spot plate. #2: Place the prongs of the conductivity meter into the liquid. # 3: Record your observations, if the light flashes or stays off. #4 Repeat steps 1-3 with remaining unknows.

Cobalt Chloride Used to detect water (changes color if water is present) Sample Procedure: #1: Put 3 ddrops of unknown 1 in one well of spot plate. #2: Put a piece of CCP in the unknown. #3: Record Result.

pH paper (Red and Blue Litmus) Indicates acids and bases Blue>red=acid Red>blue=base Sample Procedure: #1: Put 4 drops of unknown 1 into a well of the spot plate. #2: Place a piece of blue litmus paper into the unknown. #3: Record results #4: Repeat steps 1-3 with red litmus paper for unknown 1 #5 Repeat steps 1-4 for unknown 2 #6 Record Results.

pH part 2 Sample procedure 2 #1: Place a piece of blue litmus paper in a well of spot plate and a piece of rlp in another spot of spot plate. #2: Add three drops of unknown 1 to the two spots with the red and blue litmus paper. #3 Record results #4 Repeat steps 1-3 with unknown 2

Protein Test Detecting the presence of protein in a liquid) What health problems can proteins cause? Proteinuria Where can we find proteins: Peanuts, peanut butter, meat, eggs, fish, nuts, chicken, urine, blood

Procedure: (You must create a control first so you can compare your result to something) #1:Place 3 drops of NaCO3 in a well of the spot plate. #2: Add 3 drops of CuSO4 to the same spot. #3: Mix with a glass rod. #4: Place 6 drops of your unknown solution in the spot well next to your control in the spot plate #5: Add 3 drops of NaCO3 to your unknown #6: Also Add 3 drops of CuSO4 to your unknown #7: Mix the solution with a glass rod # 8: Wait 2 minutes seconds to see observe #9: Record results ***Refer to your HP Chondriac Lab for more instructions on this part of the lab

Glucose Test #1: Remove a strip of glucose paper from the container with tweezers. #2: Place strip in a well of spot plate #3: Place 2 drops of unknown 1 on the test paper #4: Wait 30 seconds and record results.

What are other words for glucose??? Sugar Starch Carbohydrates What health problems can glucose cause? Diabetes
