Gender Critical Perspective Gender interpretation focuses on relationships between genders, including patterns of thought, behavior, and power in relations between and within the sexes. For example, a gender reading of Cinderella may take into account the idea of power relationships between the men and women of the novel.

A reflection on gender… The Catcher in the Rye A reflection on gender… Jane the “three witches” Sunny HOLDEN Phoebe Sally the nuns

BRAINSTORMING Complete the Gender Criticism responses. How is Holden’s relationship with one female character similar to another? How you would explain these similarities? How does Holden’s relationship with one female character differ from another? How you would explain this difference? How does age or attractiveness factor into how Holden treats this particular female character? Does Holden use a “traditional gender role” when dealing with this particular female character? How does he, or how does he not? What specific textual evidence can you use to support your analysis?

Do the brainstorming and quotation hunting for your gender analysis. HOMEWORK Do the brainstorming and quotation hunting for your gender analysis. Finish the book?
