Addressing threats from noncompliant imports entering North America CEC Council Session 26 June 2008 1

Addressing threats from noncompliant imports entering North America Imports to North America have risen steadily in the recent years to unprecedented amounts. As these commodities enter North America, the possibility of noncompliant imports entering our region rises. Noncompliant imports jeopardize the health, environment and competitiveness of North America.

Addressing threats from noncompliant imports entering North America The Parties have initiated a process for addressing threats from noncompliant imports to protect our health, environment and competitiveness. This process is based on the identification and prioritization of threats and on the development of action plans to neutralize, reduce, and eliminate them.

Addressing threats from noncompliant imports entering North America With the implementation of this process: The Parties will be better prepared to work cooperatively in addressing threats from noncompliant imports. The Parties will be better coordinated in developing joint/harmonized/synchronized actions to neutralize, reduce and eliminate such outside threats. The health and environment of North Americans will be better protected from threats posed by noncompliant imports.
