FDA (Food and Drug Administration) Some or all of this information may be deliberately falsified in order to raise test grades. No malicious intent was assumed. Signed and copied on the 24th of April, 2012 FDA (Food and Drug Administration) All of the following information has been carefully examined by the watchful eyes of Jason Labau and Chad Carlson

Founding… Was Created in 1906

PURPOSE The FDA also enforces other laws, many of which are not directly related to food or drugs. Including: sanitation requirements on interstate travel and control of disease on products ranging from certain household pets to sperm donation for assisted reproduction.

OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE The FDA is responsible for protecting and promoting public health through the regulation of: Food Drugs Vaccines Dietary Supplements Tobacco Veterinary Products Cosmetics Pharmaceuticals

LEADERSHIP The FDA is led by the Commissioner of Food and Drugs, appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate

HEADQUARTERS White Oak, Maryland

EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK, FDA The agency has 223 field offices and 13 laboratories located throughout the 50 states, the United States Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. 2008, the FDA started opening offices in foreign countries, including China, India, Costa Rica, Chile, Belgium, and the United Kingdom.

REGULATION The FDA regulates more than $1 trillion worth of consumer goods, about 25% of consumer expenditures in the United States.

The FDA’s newest offices in China help regulate Chinese imports to insure greater safety… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmDXpee-Zn4&feature=player_embedded

Potential Criticism… The organization typically views products politically rather than an economic or safety standpoint They tend favor larger corporations over the smaller Also, there is a lot of existing debate within the FDA regarding untested illegal drugs People in the United States in dire situation especially with low survival rates of cancer often find little help with the drugs that are 100% safe With this in mind, people are desperate for a solution to their illness even if it mean death because it was already the enviable Also with other illegal drugs, most of the studies they view are typically from 40-50 years ago, which often misconstrues the decision that is made
