Policies for absences and assignments Textbooks Policies for absences and assignments Our textbooks are consumable, meaning students will be allowed to write in them and tear out pages when appropriate. Our textbook comes in two volumes. Students will be assigned one volume at a time. All information covered from the textbook will also be sent to Showbie on their iPads and they will have the option to use the textbook or iPad when taking notes and completing class work practice/examples. If the child uses the iPad , the book can be kept at home to use as a reference. Regular daily attendance in class is essential for success in Math. If a student is absent, he or she is responsible for completing make-up work. This may include an in-class assignment, quiz, test, or weekly review. All make-up work will be placed in the absent folder for the day missed. It is the student’s responsibility to ask a classmate or me for help on making up any math assignments and/or to meet with me to make up any tests, quizzes or weekly reviews. This can be done before or after school or via e-mail. Checking Grades Math Lab Math Lab is an every other day class. It is used to reinforce and enrich the standards and concepts taught in the math classroom. Activities will be interactive and hands-on in order to help students reach a firmer understanding of sixth grade math concepts. Students and parents use the parent/student portal to access student grades. Grades will be updated weekly. The parent/student portal can be accessed via any browser on a computer or the iPad. There is also an app available. _______________________________ Homework Electronic Devices Students will be given a math spiral review at the beginning of each week. This assignment is due on Friday of each week. Each student will be given the opportunity to turn in the Weekly Review on Wednesday to be checked. Accelerated classes will only be allowed to have reviews checked for the 1st semester. Students are allowed to make corrections for full credit. Also, students may earn 3 bonus points if they get it signed and turn in on time. Any late Weekly Reviews will be docked a letter grade. Personal devices are not allowed in class These personal devices should be left in the student’s locker. School iPads will be used frequently in math class. The iPad should be charged nightly and in class with the student each day. In order to use the Internet at home on your school iPad, students will need to log in to the At Home Filter. There is an icon on the iPad where students will do this. Students should see their teacher if they need help. If students do not complete work during class, in the time allotted, it will be assigned as homework so students can adhere to the determined deadlines.
