Tree of Life Investing in Community Media for Environmental Health and Cancer Prevention Services   PRESENTER’S NAME: PATRICK OKORI Authors: Wilson Okaka1 Patrick Okori2, Peter Agole 3, Kyambogo University, Kampala, Uganda Faculty of Engineering 1, 2 and Faculty of Education 3 2 Tel: +256 77983777 - Email: okoriokao@gmail.com 3Tel: +256 77652548 - Email: aaPalaomyekoa@gmail.com 1Tel: +256 782588846 - Email: nupap2000@yahoo..com   Okaka, Agole, Okori 3RD NCP2017- 20th - 24th, Nov. 201 7, KISUMU (KENYA)

3RD NCP2017- 20th - 24th, Nov. 201 7, KISUMU (KENYA) INTRODUCTION Investing in community media for local environmental healthcare status would ensure effective cancer prevention services as a basic human and constitutional rights for all citizens in Uganda and other African states today. CM are the local media ecology Community media (CM) are all forms of local information sources (channels)like the print, electronic / digital, or popular media formats Too much text distracts your audience and can be difficult to read. Okaka, Agole, Okori 3RD NCP2017- 20th - 24th, Nov. 201 7, KISUMU (KENYA)

3RD NCP2017- 20th - 24th, Nov. 201 7, KISUMU (KENYA) THE OBJECTIVES To review the role and prospects of community media in disseminating environmental health and cancer research and policy information dissemination; To review a profile the key prospects and challenges of environmental health policy awareness for cancer communication services; To explain the role of effective research and policy communication strategy for public awareness and understanding of cancer; To assess capacity building issues, interdisciplinary, university curricula, active international (North-South), and applied research collaboration approaches. Okaka, Agole, Okori 3RD NCP2017- 20th - 24th, Nov. 201 7, KISUMU (KENYA)

3RD NCP2017- 20th - 24th, Nov. 201 7, KISUMU (KENYA) METHODOLOGY Policy reviews and analysis Internet searches Research findings News bulletins and personal observations Literature review and document study Good practise and lessons learnt Wouldn’t it be easier for them if you broke down the text to the most basic points? A simple rule of thumb to follow is writing by the number 6 6 words per bullet item 6 bullets per slide 6 word slides in a row Have each bullet point start with a verb or noun, if verbs use all the same tense, use capitalization Okaka, Agole, Okori 3RD NCP2017- 20th - 24th, Nov. 201 7, KISUMU (KENYA)

3RD NCP2017- 20th - 24th, Nov. 201 7, KISUMU (KENYA) FINDINGS - 1/2 Community media are very relevant in disseminating environmental health for cancer services, research, and policy information dissemination for cancer disease control; There are socio-economic prospects of environmental health policy awareness for cancer communication services; Effective research and policy communication strategy will create or raise awareness or understanding of cancer; There are gaps in capacity building, interdisciplinary work, university curriculum reforms, active international (North-South), and applied research collaboration approaches. The rule of thumb is one method of transition and one type of animation for the whole slideshow. Do not have some text flying in, some spiraling, etc. Move from slide to slide with one transition, rather than trying out several. 3RD NCP2017- 20th - 24th, Nov. 201 7, KISUMU (KENYA) Okaka, Agole, Okori

3RD NCP2017- 20th - 24th, Nov. 201 7, KISUMU (KENYA) FINDINGS - 2/2 There are multiple cancer Heath risks or hazards associated with various work places or occupations as indicated below: General occupational cancer health risks Socio- psychological cancer health risks Biological cancer health risks Mechanical cancer health risks Chemical cancer (disease) health risks Electrical and electronic cancer health risks Ergonomics related cancer health risks Indigenous medicine reverses cancer attacks I can tell that you all aren’t focusing on me but are totally fixed on what is on the screen. If you want to use an effect to add a little animation to your text but keep it simple, use the APPEAR effect, which just makes the text appear and is the easiest for your audience to read. Okaka, Agole, Okori 3RD NCP2017- 20th - 24th, Nov. 201 7, KISUMU (KENYA)

3RD NCP2017- 20th - 24th, Nov. 201 7, KISUMU (KENYA) CONCLUSIONS The following environmental factors contribute to cancer, health risks and hazards in work places; Social-psychological risks, Biological risks, Mechanical risks and hazards, Electrical and Electronic risks and hazards, Ergonomics risks and hazards and Chemical risks and hazards Continuous research in indigenous medicine in the reversing the cancer epidemics. Okaka, Agole, Okori 3RD NCP2017- 20th - 24th, Nov. 201 7, KISUMU (KENYA)
