Reception The receptionist will take my details and give me a card with a letter on
The card has a letter on it and is coloured
I will follow the signs to get to the right waiting area Some of the wall are the same colour as the card.
I will give the card to the nurse when I get there
The waiting room I can sit here
Clock I may have to wait a few minutes

The Optician will ask me to come into the room
The questions The Optician will ask me some questions and look at my glasses
A letter chart I will read the letters or match them on a card, if I can not see all the letters it is OK
An eye cover One of my eyes will be covered during the test so we can check the vision in each eye separately
Waiting room I will need to sit and wait again
Clock I may have to wait a few minutes
The Nurse Will put some drops in my eyes
The waiting room I will be asked to wait while the drops work
The Optician will ask me to come into the room again
The light The Optician will shine a light towards my eyes
Lenses I will look through some lenses. The Optician will hold the lens very close to my eye
Eye testing glasses The Optician will ask me to wear special glasses for the test
The Optician will shine the light again to test my eyes
The Optician will shine another bright light into my eye This is to look at the back of my eye
Slit Lamp I will need to put my chin on the rest and keep my head still
The Optician will use a special lens The lens will come close to my eye
I must keep your eye open
This is what the Optician sees This is the nerve going to someone’s eye
At the end When the Optician has looked at my eyes they will explain what they think is happening. They might give me a prescription or just talk to me and whoever is with me
