Muhammad Ali By Sam O’Brien

Early Life Muhammad Ali passed on the 3rd of June 2016. His cause of death was septic shock. QUOTE~ Muhammad Ali was born on January 17 in 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky, to Cassius Marcellus Clay and Odessa O'Grady. He was the eldest of two sons. His father earned a living by painting billboards and signs. He was arguably boxing's most celebrated athlete. Heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali was also known for his public stance against the Vietnam War and his long term battle with Parkinsons disease.

With Malcolm X at his side, the champ told reporters that he had renounced his surname, which he called his “slave name,” and would be known as “Cassius X” until Nation of Islam leader Elijah Muhammad gave him a holy name. That name, Muhammad Ali, was given on March 6, 1964.

MUHAMMAD ALI/CASSIUS CLAY 1964 – Cassius Clay changes his name to Muhammad Ali. After winning the heavyweight championship in 1964, Cassius Clay publicly changed his name to Muhammad Ali and revealed that he was a member of the Nation of Islam. Means "lofty, sublime" in Arabic. Ali was a cousin and son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad and the fourth caliph to rule the Muslim world.

RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE The fight named Rumble in The Jungle was on the 29th of October 1974. it took place in the 20th of may stadium in Kinshasa Zaire (now Democratic Republic of the Congo). 32-year-old Muhammad Ali becomes the heavyweight champion of the world for the second time when he knocks out 25-year-old champ George Foreman in the eighth round.

Rumble In The Jungle George Foreman was the other contender in this fight. Ali and Foreman both had exact same height~6ft 3 however foreman had better strength but Ali had much better speed and stamina. Foreman and Ali became friends after the fight. Ali had trouble walking to the stage at the 1996 Oscars to be part of the group receiving the Oscar for When We Were Kings, a documentary of the fight in Zaire, due to his Parkinson's syndrome. George Foreman helped Ali up the steps to receive the Oscar.[

Political Side In 1966, Ali famously refused to be drafted for the Vietnam War, saying in a statement, "War is against the teachings of the holy Qur'an." He was arrested and his boxing license taken away his case made it all the way to the United States Supreme Court. In 2005, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In addition to being a symbol of the fundamental peacefulness of Islam, Ali had become a symbol of equal rights and the necessity of peace.
