Resume Purpose The resume acts as a door opener for a job interview Allows the employer to quickly assess your qualifications when screening applicants Much effort needs to be spent on preparing an excellent resume Remember: You may only get one chance at an interview.

Resume Facts The average resume is read in about 30 seconds No more then 2 pages in length is recommended if second page has less than 50% then try to fit on 1 page A resume is usually discarded due to unprofessional wording (example using an email: hotstuff@hotmail.com) spelling, grammatical and/or formatting errors Set up an email for your job applications! Check all of your wording over carefully!

Personal Information Full Name Address Phone Number Email Address Number and Street Name City Province Postal Code Phone Number Email Address Be professional no nicknames!

Job Objective Gives the employer of job that you are interested in applying for Remember to phase the statement in terms of what you can do for the employer not what you want them to do for you (example of improper statement: I need a summer job to buy myself a new IPod.) Example: Objective: I am interested in providing customer service to patrons in the food service industry.

Summary of Skills Locate this part on the resume following the objective statement Do not write this part of the resume until the rest of the resume is completed Its purpose is to provide the reader with specific statements about your qualifications 3 to 6 points maximum Example: computer proficiency includes word processing and using spreadsheets coached and motivated players on a minor hockey team supervised and prepared food for children ages 5-10

Education State the year that you entered high school and then add present State candidate for Ontario Secondary School Diploma and your Secondary School List any relevant courses relate to the job that you are applying for Example: 2006-present Candidate for an Ontario Secondary School Diploma Bramalea Secondary School, Brampton, Ontario Relevant Courses: English, Math, Business
