E-mail Technical Coordinators Meeting Chris Bongaarts October 8, 2008

Outages Intermittent IMAP/POP trouble on diamond, opal, and peridot Trouble establishing new connections Existing connections work but more slowly Gophermail outage 9/22 Reached capacity on all servers Raised resource limits and upgraded hardware to get more capacity

Server Upgrades 3 Sun V890 servers repurposed as new Gophermail servers 3 Sun V440 servers repurposed as new outbound MTA servers One in production on 9/22 for relay Others ready but load balancer issues may cause us to change our approach 3 Sun V210 servers to be repurposed as additional inbound MTA servers

UMCal Service IP changing to 134.84.119.44 on 10/19 Need to get off old unsupported load balancers Will use shared-IP failover since application requires manual failover Web client auth timeout increased to 8 hours on 10/2

Phishing Phished accounts being used to send out spam via Gophermail Currently closing accounts and blocking access to Gophermail Looking at faster/better detection methods

Bits ‘n’ Bytes Internet Services moves to WBOB on 10/17
