Christmas Christmas is an annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ and a widely observed holiday, celebrated generally on December 25 by billions of people around the world. A feast central to the Christian liturgical year, it closes the Advent season and initiates the twelve days of Christmastide. Christmas is a civil holiday in many of the world's nations, is celebrated by an increasing number of non-Christians, and is an integral part of the Christmas and holiday season.
Beginning No one knows when christians began celebrate that popularal celebration. After fourth century when in Rome christianity became state religion, Christmas holidays took place festival „Sol Invictus”. Publicly start celebrate them in the middle of fourth century. For christians Christmas holiday it’s important time for love, peace, reconciliation.
Christmas dishes The most popular dish in Polish tables on Christmas are : fish, gingerbread, red borscht, white borscht, dumplings with mushrooms The traditional Christmas table must have twelve dishes as much as it was the apostles and a hay under the white tablecloth
Tradition The tradition of Christmas holiday is used for centuries in family. When the first star comes up on the sky, family can go to an Eve meal. They taste every kinds of food that the hostess done it. Every year in Christmas holiday on the Christmas table should be one additional for unexpected guest, because this is tradition of Polish people.
Characteristic signs The most popular and characteristic signs of Christmas holiday is Christmas tree. Every year all family wear it every Christmas Ornaments : decoration chain, Christmas balls and many other decorations. Second signs of Christmas are songs. The most popular songs are : „Today in Bethlehem”, „Podnieś ręke boże dziecię”, „Oj, maluśki, maluśki”, „Lulajże Jezuniu”
How we celebrate it ? In 25 December all family go to the church to sing Christmas songs and pray for those close to us who have already gone. The another way to celebrate Christmas is mistletoe. When people stand under mistletoe then they have to kiss. Mistletoe is a sign of peace and love.
Today To the present day have survived or the belief that if in the day of Christmas Eve, the guest that appears as the first and will be the man that will bring happiness and peace to this house. In villages, has survived a custom breaking the wafer with the animals and the belief that animals talk at midnight a human voice
