The program takes place once a week over a period of 18 weeks. Lessons break for the month of December and resume in January. The award includes an overview of safety supervision and accident prevention and develops candidates leadership abilities needed to provide a safe aquatic environment. Fundamental Movement Skills An NCCP workshop for anyone who is working or interested in working with young children. The Case: Importance of ABC's (Agility, Balance, Coordination) Being physically active later in life depends on feeling confident in an activity setting. Confidence, as an adult, most often comes from having learned fundamental movement and sport skills as a child. To create an active and healthy population, all children need a sound foundation of movement and sport skills to build on later in life. This is called Physical Literacy. Sport Canada supports Long Term Athlete Development - an approach being taken by many sports to maximize a childs potential.Long Term Athlete Development The Fundamental Movement Skills of throwing, catching, jumping, striking, running, kicking, agility, and balance and coordination, form the basis for future sport skill development and for the life-long enjoyment of physical activity.
