Career of chardin Chardin was born in 1699 and died in 1779. He seemed to praise the simple goodness of ordinary people, especially mothers and young children. He spent most of his career painting stills of people who lived far from the corrupt society. Chardin was the poet of the commonplace and the master of its nuances. He found moral values in scenes of domestic life. A gentle sentiment is expressed in his works of art an emotion not contrived and artificial but born of the painters honesty, insight, and sympathy.

Grace at the table, 1740 In the painting, Grace at the Table, Chardin uses hushed lighting and mellow color. He uses tenebrism in the foreground to highlight the narrative that is being depicted. Chardin uses a simple square pattern on the floor and a line pattern on the two elegant chairs.

In this painting, Chardin uses chiarroscuro on the fruit to show the light that coming from outside of the painting. He gives the metallic goblet a shiny appearance, and the bowl a smooth, yet dull texture. Chardin balances the dark shading on the top and middle left of the painting with the same dark shading on the bottom right. The Silver Goblet, oil on canvas Girl with Racket and Shuttlecock In this painting, Chardin uses chiarroscuro with the girls face, and her wrists to show a light source coming from the left part of the outside of the painting. He uses a pattern of the colors blue, red and white on the shuttlecock that the girl is holding in her left hand. Chardin also puts a soft texture on her face and red cheeks to show give the girl a stylized look.
