Collage: While artists have been layering images and Incorporating elements into their work since the advent of paper, collage truly emerged as a medium in its own right in the early years of the 20th century with the Cubist experiments of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque.
Collage : A piece of art made by attaching various materials such as photographs, pieces of paper, or fabric onto a backing.
For this project copy the outline and any other details you’d like to have of your self portrait drawing onto another sheet of 8 ½ X 11 drawing paper. Fill the space within the outline with the materials you collected. Think outside the box: concert tickets, birthday cards, movie stubs, dried flowers, etc. Use tracing paper to cut the items to the right size. Fill the entire space. None of the drawing paper should be showing when you finish.
What can you do with the background? Pages of a book? Song lyrics? Maps? Dictionary page? Use rubber cement to glue down the papers and objects. Due Friday. If you finish early, finish up your self portrait drawing and/or abstract painting. Be Creative!
