Learning Map for Yellow Class: Summer 2017 Rumble in the Jungle Can I identify places on a map? Chn to have a map of the world . After discussion, video clips and role play adventure the chn are to role play visiting different continents and meeting the animals which live there. Teacher to lead exploration in each place teaching them about the animals and environment. Can I locate the site of a historical event? Chn to learn about the adventures of Charles Darwin, Amerigo Vespucci and Christopher Columbus and plot their journeys on a simple map. Chn to discuss what it must have been like to see new animals for the first time. We are explorers! Can I record facts? Chn to use their experiences from their role play to create a factual TV show which explains their findings. Children to learn about Attenborough’s recent adventure to the Galapagos islands. Chn to learn about and recreate famous artwork by Henri Rousseau. Chn to practise the art of layering paper and textures to create a scene. The children will create animal patterns and skins, as well as plant life to create habitat artwork. Explorers David Attenborough Henri Rousseau Rumble in the Jungle Seasonal changes Animals around the world Wild and garden plants Art focus on Henri Rousseau Plants! Can I correctly label and describe plants parts and their uses? Chl to draw their favourite editable plant and to label it. They will have an opportunity to grow their virtual plant. Chn to use books from the library to support research. Can I explain the importance of plants? Chl to identify and name a variety of common wild and garden plants, including deciduous and evergreen trees. Some like it hot Animal homes Seasonal changes Can I know what a habitat is? Chn to learn what a habitat is, search for habitats in our school and design and make new safe habitats for the creatures which live in our environment. Chn to also create mini books to explain how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly and about the cocoon habitat it creates to protect themselves. Chl will learn about how trees change over the seasons; They will find out that weather is not controlled by humans; Chl to create turntable of 4 seasons which includes plants, animals, weather and clothing. Can I correctly label and describe animal body parts and their uses? Chn to learn about animals which live on hot climates. Look into body adaptations to suit environment. Chn to create animal fact sheets based on findings. Chn to use books from the library to support research. .
