Presentation transcript:

Some sustainable food related practices

Some sustainable food related practices Social Pros: people working together, socialising, talking to their neighbours, asking for advice, supporting each other, watching demonstrations Cons: people arguing, being cheated, feeling hard-done by, having their garden shredded by chickens, being annoyed by swarming bees, feeling left out when socialising

Some sustainable food related practices Economic $$$!!!! Pros: Cheaper fresher in-season food Cons: money paid for food, jars/ containers, electricity, boat & trailer, fishing rods, gun & lockable cabinet & licence, bee keepers gear, hives, fence to keep chickens in, vehicle + gas to go hunting, gathering, foraging or shopping …..

Some sustainable food related practices

Some sustainable food related practices Environmental Pros: Lower food miles, carbon footprint, global warming, CO2 production, transport, waste, landfill, use of insecticides, pesticides and artificial fertiliser, doing your bit to increase the bee population (colony collapse) Cons: Not knowing how to tell if shellfish and other foraged food is safe to eat, maybe food co-operative sometimes does not provide organically grown fruit and vegetables
