Heat and the Transfer of Energy
Temperature vs. Heat Temperature is a measure of the average kinetic energy. Heat is the transfer of energy from one object to another due to a difference in temperature.
Heat Always flows from a warmer temperature to a cooler temperature. The transfer of heat will stop once temperatures have equalized.
Energy can be transferred in 3 ways: Conduction – transfer of energy through contact Convection – transfer of energy by the flow of material Radiation – transfer of energy in waves or rays
Conduction Conductors are materials that transfer energy easily Insulators are materials that are not good conductors, but are used to trap energy
