Godliness Is Profitable For All Things 1 Timothy 4:7-8

Godliness Is Profitable Have you wondered what profit (advantage) there is to being a Christian? The rest of the world lives any way they want and you live by God’s word. What profit is there in doing this? Consider five areas of your life that profit from a godly character

What Is Godliness? Godliness (Gr. eusebeia) means “to be devout, denotes that piety which, characterized by a Godward attitude, does that which is well-pleasing to Him” (Vines, 272)

Godliness Profits Us Materially We will follow the godly principles that involve a good work ethic (Prov. 6:10-11; Eph. 4:28; 1 Thess. 4:11-12; 2 Thess. 3:10-11), honesty (2 Cor. 8:21), and saving (Jn. 6:12-13) God will take care of us with the basic necessities of life (Mt. 6:25-33; Mk. 10:28-30)

Godliness Profits Us Physically We will follow the godly principles that exercise self-control over our mind and body (Prov. 3:1-2; 4:10; 9:10-11; 10:27; 1 Cor. 9:27; Rom. 8:13; Eph. 4:22; 6:1-3; 1 Pet. 2:11; 3:10; 4:3-4) We will use our body for God’s use, not for harmful substances (1 Cor. 6:18-20; Rom. 12:1-2)

Godliness Profits Us Mentally We will follow the godly principles that lead to a happy state of mind (Psa. 144:15; Prov. 28:14; Mt. 5:3-10; 1 Pet. 1:8), virtue (Phil. 4:8) and contentment (Heb. 13:5-6; Phil. 4:10-12 We will be guilt free (Heb. 10:22; 1 Pet. 3:21) We will be worry free (Mt. 6:25-34; Jn. 14:1; Phil. 4:4-7)

Godliness Profits Us Socially We will follow the godly principles that lead to peaceful actions with others (Rom. 12:18-19; 14:19; Gal. 5:16-26; 1 Pet. 2:17) We will make friendships that help us, not hurt us (Prov. 1:10-19; 1 Cor. 15:33) We will have a spiritually family to rely on (Acts 4:23)

Godliness Profits Us Spiritually We will follow the godly principles that lead to a right relationship with God and all spiritual blessings (Eph. 1:3): forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38; 3:19), answered prayer (Heb. 4:15- 16; 1 Jn. 5:14), inner strength (Eph. 3:16), a way of escape (1 Cor. 10:13), God’s providential care (Heb. 13:5-6) We will get “the life that is to come” – eternal life – heaven (Mk. 10:28-30; 1 Jn. 2:25)
