The Effects of Marijuana on the Teenage Brain Building Champions Lesson Red Ribbon Week

Watch this Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvszaF4vcNY Note: Cannabis is another name for marijuana or pot.

The Teenage Brain Did you know that your brain is still developing? During your teenage years, your brain is undergoing a MAJOR overhaul to get you ready to be an adult. Decisions you make while you are a teenager can have life-long effects.

Your Teenage Brain on Pot Teenagers who smoke marijuana suffer long-lasting brain damage and are in much greater danger of developing schizophrenia. When teenagers smoke pot, their brain activity is impaired and the damage continues into adulthood. Teenagers who start using pot before the age of 16 are a greater risk of PERMANENT brain damage, and have a significantly higher incidence of psychiatric disorders.

The Teenage Brain on Pot Even teenagers that are exposed to a low dose of marijuana or short term use have brain abnormalities that persisted into adulthood. Long-term use of pot that begins during the teenage years also destroys dopamine, the feel-good chemical in our brain. That means you will have a harder time feeling happy as an adult. Marijuana use can lead to becoming withdrawn and lethargic.

The Teenage Brain on Pot Using marijuana as a teenager can cause a DROP in your IQ by up to 8 points! That means you get dumber ! This drop cannot be reversed. Teenagers who never use pot, can experience a spike in IQ in adulthood of 1-2 points. That means you may get smarter if you don’t use pot!

The Teenage Brain on Pot So when you decide to smoke pot as a teenager, you are saying you are ok with getting dumber while your friends who choose not to smoke pot are making a decision to get smarter! Looks like an easy decision!

Don’t let dope make you a dope….literally! Want more for yourself! Want more for your life!
