WP4.1: Industry Survey – Accelerator Technologies H2020 AMICI WP4.1: Industry Survey – Accelerator Technologies Anthony Gleeson, STFC Daresbury Laboratory, UK anthony.gleeson@stfc.ac.uk +44 1925 603911

Task WP4.1 “…to assist innovative European commercial organisations in identifying and successfully exploiting broader societal market opportunities for mature Accelerator technologies.” The survey will assess the technical capabilities of each participating organisation in the identified Accelerator technology areas, looking at their equipment, skills and capacity to deliver, as well as their appetite for commercial innovation based on past history and current attitude to risk. In addition the survey will provide insight into the domains of societal applications and potential market sizes beyond Research Infrastructures. A report identifying specific domains of societal applications and European commercial organisations that have the current capability, and future potential, to innovate and develop solutions in the fields of mature Accelerator technologies will be delivered at the end of the project.

Task 4.1: Industry Survey – Accelerator Technologies: Activities Person - months Using sources such as TIARA output, ILOs, RIs, identify a list of companies to survey. 1 Solicit ideas for potential societal applications from TIARA output, ILOs, RIs. Scope out work and write tender for 3rd party survey partner selection 0.75 Manage the 3rd party bid and selection process Work with and manage 3rd party to perform survey and provide an analysis of their findings 4                                                   i.      Their technical capabilities in identified technology areas - equipment/skills/capacity/network                                                   ii.      Their appetite for commercial innovation -past history/attitude to risk                                               iii.      Their ideas regarding potential market opportunities for societal applications a.      Review existing reports of societal applications by research bodies:                                                   i.      TIARA output                                                 ii.      EUCARD2 Applications for Particle Accelerators in Europe – June 2015                                               iii.      IAEA Applications of Electron Beams – Sept 2015 (Global scope)                                                iv.      Accelerators for America’s Future – DoE Report – 2009? b. Create Survey for industry capabilities and potential market applications c.       Perform survey (In person and online survey?)                                                   i.      this will be outsourced to a 3rd party d.      Collate and perform initial analysis of results                                                   i.      this will be carried out by the 3rd party e.      Investigate market size – existing and potential Analyse the findings of the 3rd party to identify Europe’s potential to innovate in areas of societal applications and produce final report for AMICI. 2 Total 9.50
