Shine as Lights Philippians 2:12-16

3 Commands to the Church Work out your salvation, v.12,13 Work out your holiness, v.14,15a Work out your witness, v.15b,16 “…shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life…” Philp. 2:15b,16a

Work Out Your Salvation, v.12,13 ‘work out’ = a call to continual action ‘work out’ = a call to rest & wrestle ‘work out’ = a call that involves both you and God ‘work out’ = a call to perseverance ‘You and I are to live on the outside what God has done on the inside’

Work Out Your Salvation This call to ‘work out’ requires us to: Recognize that God has already worked out your salvation for you, v.12; Rom. 8:29,30 Recognize that God is presently working out your salvation in you, v.12; Rom. 8:31-39; Philp. 1:6 Recognize that God delights in this work, v. 13b; John 15:11; Heb.12:3 Recognize that this work involves, ‘fear’ & ‘trembling’, on your part, v. 12b

Work Out Your Holiness ‘Fear & Trembling’ = reverence, awe, careful attention to, not wanting to dishonour ‘Without’ = absence, no evidence of ‘grumbling & disputing’ = discontentment, doubting of God’s intention & love, the opposite of ‘fear & trembling’ Your sanctification is tied to every circumstance in your life! How you respond tells the world something about who God is or isn’t!
