Social media Traditionally, consumers used the Internet to simply expend content: they read it, they watched it, and they used it to buy products and services. (Kietzmann,2011). Through social media we all get to contribute to the Internet. Challenges of definition Common features: Interactive Web 2.0 Internet-based applications Service-specific profiles for the website or app Facilitate the development of online social networks by connecting a user's profile with those of other individuals or groups

Social media & business continuity CIECT initiated whatsapp groups with the teams for business continuity Student national protests (2016) Effective communication, continuity of projects Student support (Digital Academic Literacy programme) Large scale student support Whatsapp - communicate with all tutors necessity is the mother of invention, Fees must fall

Social media and team operations Whatsapp group for daily team operations and effective communication. CIECT teams situated across campus. Social media minimises face-to-face engagement (mundane operations)

Student ownership and social media Whatsapp group INF221 (EMS faculty) - students Maximum of 30 students - easier to manage Students keep track of class time and venues Conditions were set in the group regarding language, group topics, and respect – ownership Out DAL team started using this platform to support students.

Short course: An 'eTools Kit' for Entrepreneurs (Community) Equip entrepreneurs with the necessary eSkills for the effective use of eTools to manage and market small businesses. Participants / Community members are able to create and edit marketing material (flyers, posters and videos); source and share necessary information from the World Wide Web (WWW); create effective presentations; create a marketing website; and create a basic database for procurement management. Use of sound clips.

Social media & blogging Online presence:  Social media has proved to be a powerful medium of communication as seen through our Wordpress blog, Facebook and Twitter campaigns. These videos can be viewed on iKamva Etools that can be used for communication and collaboration
