About the teacher Mrs. Mennella- Regular Education Teacher, Year # 2 at Wilson! brenda.mennella@Christina.k12.de.us

School Mission The mission of Etta Wilson Elementary School is to give every student opportunities to learn in an academically challenging, safe, equitable, and nurturing environment. We pledge to value parents, caregivers, and families as partners in educating our students to learn, live, and lead in the 21st century and beyond.

My Philosophy I believe parent teacher communication is essential to your child's success in school.  That’s why I have an “Open Door Policy”.  The purpose of my Open Door Policy is to encourage open communication, feedback, and discussion about any matter of importance to you or your child. I believe in regular parent teacher communication.  I use my web site to provide a summary of what we’re studying.  I use email to provide updates and reminders.  I invite parents to stop in if they have a question or want to discuss a matter.  For instance, if your child is struggling with homework or relationships with peers, I encourage parents to bring it to my attention.  We can work together to create a two-pronged approach that encourages the child to discover ways to solve the problem using the guidance at home and at school. I believe in taking what is taught in the classroom to the real world

Classroom Management-PBS Be Respectful Be Responsible Manage Yourself Follow Directions –The first time

Classroom Management-PBS Classroom specific rules, routines! Our class uses the Colored Card Chart for Behavior Management. Pink is where I would like everyone to remain. If a student does inappropriate/disruptive things they will be told to lower their clip. Each lowered clip is five minutes of recess where they are to walk around the blacktop. If they get dropped down to red you may receive a phone call from me.

Homework-Communication How do you communicate with parents weekly/daily? I use the daily agenda I will phone if needed or send an email. Homework policy Generally, there will be at least two assignments nightly Reading for 20-30 minutes nightly and a math practice assignment.
