Presentation transcript:

Overview In Leviticus 23, God appointed seven holidays for the Israelites as times to meet with him Passover (Pesach) Unleavened Bread (Hag HaMatzot) Firstfruits (Reishit) Pentecost (Shavuot) Trumpets (Yom HaTeruah or Rosh HaShanah) Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) Tabernacles (Sukkot)

Overview Three of the holidays were pilgrimage feasts when all Jewish males were required to go up to Jerusalem to ‘appear before the LORD.’ (Deut. 16:16) Passover / Unleavened Bread Pentecost Tabernacles

Overview Three main lessons of the feasts: God’s protection God’s provision God’s promise God’s calendar of redemption …

Overview God’s Calendar of Redemption Passover pictures the death of Jesus, the perfect sacrifice – God is redeeming his people. Unleavened Bread pictures the sinless Jesus, ‘the bread of life’ from heaven – God is nourishing his people. Firstfruits foretold his resurrection on the third day – God is gaining his people. Pentecost predicted the coming of the Holy Spirit – God is empowering his people. The three autumn feasts (Trumpets, Day of Atonement, and Tabernacles) will be fulfilled at his second coming.

Overview God’s Calendar of Redemption Trumpets – because Israel is a scattered people, they have to be gathered. Day of Atonement – because Israel is a sinful people, they need to be cleansed. Tabernacles – because Israel is a suffering people, they will be comforted in the millennial kingdom.
