Quiz Bowl Orientation “Everyone is an Artist and an Engineer”

Parking and Directions We are expecting more than 150 volunteers the day of the event. Unfortunately we are unable to provide parking for all of our volunteers. The George R. Brown Convention Center has a number of affordable parking options and there are hourly on-street, garage and surface parking lots available in walking distance. For directions and parking information visit the GRB website at: www.Houstonconventionctr.com Breakfast and Lunch We want to make sure our volunteers are well hydrated and strong. A small snack breakfast, coffee and water are provided for our morning shift volunteers and a box lunch for our volunteers during the afternoon shift. We also have food vendors in the GRB to purchase food and drinks. Please remember, NO FOOD OR DRINKS IN THE THEATER OR COMPETITION ROOMS.

Arrival and Check-In Upon your arrival please check in at the Registration table at the top of the A & B escalators. Sign in, pick up your name badge, and breakfast before heading to your designated area. Please wear your company or organization’s t-shirt (i.e., a Shell Company shirt). Description and Instructions Students will demonstrate their knowledge of STEM facts pertaining to each of the CSTEM Challenge categories in the STEM Quiz Bowl in teams of two from each school level. Quiz Bowl Schedule: Each team will have six competition rounds. There will be additional round in the event there is a tie breaker. There are two students per school per round (2 elementary, 2 middle, and 2 high school). The Quiz Bowl will be powered by a GuideVue App and students will take their quizzes on the iPAD Mini. Quiz Bowl Questions: The questions have been preloaded on iPAD Mini’s using a GuideVue App. The students will have 4 minutes to take their quiz. The buzzer and MC will let the students know when to begin and end their Quiz. Quiz Bowl Volunteer: As a quiz bowl volunteer you will help make sure the students are in their place and ready to compete for this competition challenge. You will assist the quiz bowl staff as need be and re-set each table between competition rounds.
