Background Previous studies EDMS nr. 1507789 show some features that only appear in 12 mm discs surface (sample 2, as presented in slide nr.2). One hypothesis about the appearance of these features is a hydrogen illness phenomenon which would occur during heat treatment in H2 atmosphere if oxygen content is higher than 5 ppm as requested in “Technical Specification N° 2001 – Ed. 7 – 11.10.2006” (EDMS 790779). Moreover, it was discovered that the various batches of Cu-OFE did not come from the same supplier. Four samples were sent to Evans Analytical Group (EAG) for oxygen content analysis. In addition one of the samples (sample 4) was requested also for the sulphur content.

Conclusions Sample 1, 2 and 4 are below 5ppm of oxygen. Sample 2 have less than 5 ppm of oxygen  observed features have no relation with oxygen content. Sample 3 is 22 ppm of oxygen what is more than 4 time the upper limit. In sample 4 the S content was also measured being within tolerance.
