Pre-Intermediate Lesson 38 Looking for a job Pre-Intermediate Lesson 38

Today we are going to learn: Vocabulary connected to looking for jobs The difference between ‘look for’ and ‘find’

Look for = you don’t know where something is, it is a process. I don’t know where my keys are. I am looking for them everywhere. Find = you already have what you wanted, it is a result. After 30 minutes I found my keys in a fridge.

What kind of jobs are there? Temporary job Summer job Odd jobs Allie wants to find a temporary job for half a year to earn some extra money for a trip. Full time job Part time job Hourly paid job Sam found a great job, but he can only do part time because of his studies.

How do people look for jobs? Look in newspapers and magazines Look at online ads Register on a job search website Post their resume online Ask friends Make a post on social networking websites The best job I’ve ever found was through a friend of a friend. My friend told me about a vacancy in the company.

What can you do to get the job you want? Write a good resume/ CV Write a cover letter Be persistent

How can we prepare for a job interview? Think about what you wear to the interview Don’t be late Be confident and believe in yourself Greet the interviewer with a smile Research the company before you come to an interview Do your best to relax and show your best side

What questions can the interviewer ask? Tell me about your work experience Tell me about your educational background Why do you want to work here? Tell me about a time you were in a difficult situation and found a solution Where do you see yourself in five years’ time? What questions could you ask? How long is the working week? How many days off do I get? Are there any benefits? What is the salary? Do I get paid sick leave?

How did you get this job? I was doing a teaching course and my tutor said that he knows about a vacancy in the British Council. I wrote an email with my CV expressing interest in the position. Then I was invited to a job interview. After the interview I got a call and they said they liked me and wanted me to work for them.

Today we have learned: Vocabulary connected to looking for jobs The difference between ‘look for’ and ‘find’
